SAL Part 6 Finished!

If you are a regular reader of my blog you would be aware that I am participating in my first SAL.  It is the SAL Sorpresa 3 by Sara Guermani and I just completed part 6.  Part 11 has been released this month so I am behind, but I am taking it at a leisurely pace.

It's a great design, I really love it.
I have also checked out Sara's previous SAL's and they were Autumn and Summer which are also lovely, but Winter has always been my favourite season, so I'm soo glad that I found this one.

In my previous posts I was telling you about a parcel I was waiting on from Canada.  Well the good news is that it finally arrived yesterday, posted November 30, arrived February 15.  I'm happy to report that it all arrived in one piece.  Here is what Melissa F sent me for the "Christmas Joy" exchange.

I shall look forward to using all those goodies for this coming Christmas.

Until next time, happy stitching/quilting

Initial Heart Swap

I participated in the Initial Heart Swap this year, run by Swap Mama Cheryll.
I was to send to Pam and I also received from Pam.
Here is what I sent to Pam.

This was my first ever heart finish and also the first thing I made up on my new sewing machine this year.  I found a pattern for a heart shaped oven mitt and followed the instructions but instead of using batting and making it flat, I filled it and made it into a stuffed pillow instead.  I cross stitched the "P" on some white linen and used some fabric roses as embellishments.
I also sent along a box of fruit shaped jellies, some hand dyed thread and a roll of ribbon.

Here is what I received from Pam.

A gorgeous Michelle Ridgeway stitchery design made into a mini wallhanging.  As you can see from the photo, I found a hanger for it straight away and its already displayed on the wall.  Pam also included a large bag of jelly jube lollies which are my favourites.

Thank you Pam for a great exchange, I really enjoyed it, and thanks to Cheryll for organising.
Until next time, happy stitching/quilting

A Birthday Gift for Mum

It's my Mum's birthday on Tuesday Feb 11 and I wanted to make her something this year.  I always have trouble trying to find her something in the shops as she is very hard to buy for, so this year I thought I would put my new craft into action and make her something she can keep for a long time.

Pinwheel table runner

Too say I was super happy with the end product is a bit of an understatement, I couldn't get the smile off my face as I watched it all come together and put that final stitch into the binding.  Binding, which by the way is my first ever attempt at, and I was soo worried about that stage of the table runner, but have to admit that its the part I really enjoyed.  I kept hearing myself doing little "Squees" every now and then.  I have to invest in a walking foot for my machine as my model didn't come with one, that is why I just did the simple diagonal quilting so I wouldn't get too much bunching happening.  I watched the Missouri Quilt Company tutorial on the binding, attached it by machine to the front and then hand stitched it to the back (gotta love those tutorials!!).  Again I am not saying it is 100% perfect, I have no one sat here helping me at all with this new craft, I am learning everything as I go from all the wonderful blogs out there (especially the Aussie ladies, you girls are fab) and the great tutorials.

I also picked up these gorgeous fabrics during the week.  My goal, to make a cot quilt!  I just fell in love with the ballooning animals, too cute.

Thank you for all your comments on my previous posts, your encouragement and lovely words are soo wonderful to hear and it really spurs me on to learn and create more.

Until next time, happy stitching & quilting.
